Red50's 80 Day Challenge
Hey Guys,
Background Info: I'm a 19 year old college guy. When I was a really young kid, I used to have spells of my weight going up and down within a range of mildly overweight and underweight BMI's. Since I was maybe 8 though, I'd been steadily adding weight and getting larger and larger. The peak came in May 2014, when I weighed 241 pounds, standing at 5' 9".
Weight Loss Journey: In May, I decided that I was sick of being fat. I decided that I wanted to "feel tight and thin, really really healthy, so that you can live your life to it's maximum potential", as Dr. Lewis puts it. So I set to work on trying to loose weight. Initially, I went really low carb and just decided to make generally healthier choices and managed to drag my weight down from 241 to about 215 by August, when I discovered the 5 bite diet. I used the diet to help me push through a plateau and managed to get from 215 to about 200 over the course of about 15 days.
Where I am Now: For the last month or so, I've been trying on and off to get back on the plan but have been falling short repeatedly. I want to go back on the diet starting tomorrow: Friday October 3rd. To help keep myself honest and accountable and on track, I've decided to post whatever I eat that has calories in it and also my daily weights in this forum. I like to weigh myself everyday. It helps me keep on track.
The Rationale: For those of you who have seen Dr. Lewis' interview on The Gregory Mantell Show, he says, "One year ago, I was up to 190. Now I'm at 137. One year ago, in about 40 days, I just dropped the weight like this *snaps*, using my diet. It took me about 40 days, and it was almost 60 pounds." 137 is, according to the good Doc, his ideal weight.
My Plan: Dr. Lewis' ideal weight for me is 125 pounds. While I'd love to get there one day, that is not the ultimate goal of this particular challenge. The goal of this challenge is for me to get to my own personal target of 150. So I'll need to lose 50 pounds in 80 days. If the Doctor's story is accurate, then this should not be an issue if I faithfully stick to the plan the whole way through.
Why 80 Days? That would be by the morning of December 22nd, when I am likely to next see my closest friends (at different colleges and will get back around then for winter break). I'd love to shock them with my weight loss. I mean, they've witnessed the first 40 pounds already before they went back to their colleges, but weight loss is more pronounced as you lose more, so I'm hoping to get a jaw dropping reaction to a new body for me. Plus, I can buy new clothes for my new body for cheap on the post-Christmas sales
And now that you know all about me, my goals, and my motivations, I'll end this post. First weight in and associated information will come in tomorrow morning.

Thanks saf!
Just did my initial weigh in:
DAY 1 (10/3/14): SW- 199.6
Interestingly, from a BMI perspective, this means I burned off all my "obese" weight on my previous dieting ventures this year. Now I'm at the upper edge of overweight and am looking to burn through all of that and more

Re: Red50's 80 Day Challenge
Thanks Buffy!
Gonna make my bites sized tojust whatever I can fit in my mouth at any given time atleast at first.
9:45 AM: had my multivitamin with a diet coke caffeine free
12:30 PM: had a string cheese in 1 glomp of a bite really, leaving me with circa 9 for dinner.

Re: Red50's 80 Day Challenge
6:45 PM: Had 9 glomps of Pizza for dinner. Ended up being 2 of the normal slices and 1 little tiny one.
8:15 PM: Had one chocolate from a box that my family was eating. I know it's an 11th bite to add to my already sizable intake for the day, but I tried to grab the smallest one.
According to calorie estimates I found online, all this means that I probably had around 800-900 calories today. Very good for weight loss, but not quite 5 bite good yet. Dr. Lewis seems to want us to sorta max out around 500 calories (2 snickers bars), and ideally be lower with healthier foods. Here's hoping I can do better tomorrow!

That is good you lost the 1 pound .If I were you I would lay off having big huge bites Dr. Lewis wants us to taste the food it's not to get us full and that our calorie intake a day should be around 500 to 600 a day because if you have more of food the n that you won't lose your weight a as fast

I definitely agree that I need to cut the calories down by making the bites smaller, but I think I'll do that over a few days. If I chop it down immediately, I'm afraid of starving myself off of the plan altogether.

Re: Red50's 80 Day Challenge
1:15 PM: Had 5 bites of a chicken sub sandwich for lunch. The way the sandwich was served was approximately a 9 inch sub cut into 6 pieces. I ended up having 2 of the pieces so probably around a 3 inch sub.
5:00 PM: Had my multivitamin.

Re: Red50's 80 Day Challenge
8:45 PM: Had 5 bites of chinese food for dinner (each bite being a shrimp and whatever rice I could fit on the fork with the shrimp).
So I was doing pretty good with my diet, but then I had two fortune cookies, so I ended up having 12.
Probably healthier than yesterday and lower calorically. Still not following the plan 100%, but pretty damn close.

Re: Red50's 80 Day Challenge
Thanks
Today's Intake:
1 PM: multivitamin + 1 medium-ish sized slice of pizza (I ate it in two bites.)
8 PM: Had leftover chinese food. 5 spoonfuls of fried rice and 3 pieces of sweet and sour shrimp.
So today I actually did exactly 10 bites, though my bites are definitely still bigger than they should be.
My estimates put the calorie content at around 500-600 for the day though, so progress is progress

Re: Red50's 80 Day Challenge
9:30 AM - Had my multivitamin
didn't have a chance to have lunch because of classwork so I effectively fasted till dinner.
6:00 PM - had 7 spoonfuls of the leftover chinese food (shrimp fried rice mostly at this point)
8:00 PM - was still a bit hungry and was craving taste, so I had a 120 calorie Weight Watchers soup.
I didn't count bites at all for the soup, but I do know it was a 120 calorie box.
So today ended up being 7 bites + 120 Calorie soup.

First, a bit of an update on yesterday. I ended up having 3 cookies later that night because I was having a craving. That puts me at 10 bites + the soup, so you can call it extra I guess.

Re: Red50's 80 Day Challenge
DAY 5 DISASTER. I fell off the wagon big time. Today, I had:
Large Fries @ Jack In The Box
3 Pieces Croissant Donuts @ Jack In The Box
7-Layer Burrito @ Taco Bell
4 Pieces Cinnabon Delights @ Taco Bell
Euro Burger @ Euro Grill (left ~1/2 the patty on the plate)
All that comes together to an estimated 2500 calories.
When I look back at that list, I'm so ashamed, and yet, I won't let it get me down. There is a reason I budgeted 80 days to do what Dr. Lewis said he managed in 40. I knew I'd have a few days like this. As long as I keep them few and far between and stick to the diet the rest of the time as faithfully as I have been, things will be okay and I'll reach my 50 pound goal in 80 days.
Anywho, as soon as I finished that splurge (all between 1 and 4 PM in the day somehow), I realized it was wrong and so I did everything I could to minimize the damage. I took a bunch of supplements (FBCx to try and block fat absorption, Phase 2 Carb Controller to try and block Carb consumption, Meratrim to try and inhibit fat storage into the cells). I have no idea if they work. I bought them once upon a time when I was desperate and hadn't heard of the 5 bite diet. Either way, I figure they'll either do nothing or help a bit in restricting the damage. I also walked 4 miles (burning off 400 calories or so) and fasted since then until tomorrow morning.
No way to know how bad the damage was until tomorrow mornings weigh in, but no matter what, I won't let it get me down and I won't let this one slip up become a negative death spiral for my diet plans.

DAY 6 (10/8/14): CW- 197.6
Weight Lost So Far: -2.0 Pounds
Oooh, up all the way to 197.6 again. That's 2.4 pounds gained overnight because of that binge.
Good news is, science tells me it's probably not fat but glycogen and water and will thus will be burned off throughout the day today if I'm faithful to the diet, leading to a dramatic number drop tomorrow morning.

Re: Red50's 80 Day Challenge
Ended up fasting from my binge till dinner tonight (26 hours or so).
For dinner, I ended up having 2 burgers (chicken patty, lettuce, tomato, 1 slice velveeta, a spoonful of ketchup, and a bun on each side). Yes, I managed to eat them in today's 10 bites
Not an ideal dinner and both burgers together should make for a bit below 1000 calories for the day, which is high for the diet obviously though still quite low generally speaking. Took some supplements beforehand (may as well finish off the leftovers from that phase rather than throw them away) and hopefully that will reduce the amount of calories my body actually manages to pry out of the burgers.
All in all though, I'm happy with my intake on Day 6 of the challenge and feel that it should be sufficient to help me meet my target.

Re: Red50's 80 Day Challenge
Today (day 7) ended up being the best day I've had so far of the challenge:
1 String Cheese (50 calories)
1 Weight Watchers Soup (120 calories)
1 Skinny Cow Ice Cream Bar (160 calories)
So all in all, I got by on just 330 calories today. Or 1 and a 1/3 snickers bar. Here's hoping I see those results on the scale tomorrow as we conclude week 1 of the challenge. I'm hoping for roughly 5 pounds per week of weight loss, so anything 194.6 or under would be golden.

DAY 8 (10/10/14): CW- 195.8
Weight Lost So Far: -3.8 Pounds
Hmmm, so just under 4 pounds in week one. Not ideal, but not bad either. Gotta tighten up my following of the diet though and prevent future splurges like the one a few days ago. Pretty sure if I hadn't done that, I would've met my 5 pound target for the week.
Oh well, here we go again for week 2, hopefully a stronger and healthier week
